Can report generation span multiple processes?

From what I have seen all reporting operators for a given report must reside in the same process. Is this correct? Is there any way of spreading the report generation across different processes?
(I would like to invoke a process (using Execute Process) to generate some section of a report, in various report-generating processes.)
Or if not, is there any other way to factor out the common functionality for generating some similar section in different reports, to avoid maintaining two parallel large subprocesses?
