Not all attriutes are used

I have data with 11 regular attributes and one special attribute. The output decision tree contains only 8 attributes. Why?

    Could it be that some of the attributes are not predictive for the decision tree? 
    If the attribute doesn't need to be used by the Decision Tree it won't appear in the model.
